Sharp Dressed Man

Empowering men to improve their lives.

My name is Christopher Schafer and I'm the founder of Sharp Dressed Man. We're a non-profit organization that recycles suits to dress men for job interviews and beyond. We are raising money to pay off a huge ($20,000) BGE (Baltimore Gas & Electric) power bill. How did we get such a large bill? We've had a crazy year that started with a fire at our old location (235 Park Ave / 3,000 square feet) on March 1st. That caused us to move to our new much bigger location (223 W. Lexington Street / 20,000 square feet) on April 1st. The Baltimore Development Corp is letting us use this massive space for free, which is amazing. Upon moving into the new space we were unable to switch the BGE into our name because the prior tenant had not turned it off. It was not until this autumn that we received the gigantic backdated to April 1st BGE bill. We were shocked at the amount of the bill, we tried every avenue that we could for a reduction or a clean slate and we came up empty. If we don't take care of this bill soon then the power is going to be shut off and we will have to close our doors. As hectic as this last year has been, we have still managed to suit 1,604 men. We want to continue to empower men to improve their lives but we need your help .  This organization means so much to me and many other people because of the metamorphosis that occurs when our clients see themselves looking dapper again. His confidence comes back right before his and our eyes. It's an awesome thing to witness. I really wish that I didn't have to ask for this help but this last year has proven to be quite challenging on several levels. Any bit that you can do to help us get back on our feet would be greatly appreciated. GoFundMe  https://www.gofundme.com/help-save-sharp-dressed-man

A Change of Clothes
Changes Lives.

Sharp Dressed Man empowers men to improve their lives- equipping men in the Baltimore area who are preparing for work through job training programs with recycled suits for job interviews. Our professional presentation program gives men confidence and a professional look as they prepare for job interviews. We bridge a critical gap between job development programs that provide training and the remaining skills and look needed to be considered for and obtain employment. Sharp Dressed Man is the only program of its kind in the area, and our services are desperately needed in Baltimore and beyond.

"I've never worn a suit before. Now I feel like I can take on anyone and win." - Charles S.

Often a nice suit and appropriate business attire is the last hurdle for men getting back on their feet. Sharp Dressed Man equips men who are ready for work with a measure-to-fit, one on one styling experience resulting in a hand selected suit and accessories to wear to interviews and other occasions.

Studies show we have seven seconds to make a first impression. Aligning a man's outer look with his inner character helps to remove biases and enables him to move ahead in his job search. Our suit program helps improve first impressions in the Baltimore region, helping men get back on their feet to live a better life.

After a fire closed the Sharp Dressed Man boutique in March, we have reopened in a new space thanks to Baltimore Development Corporation. The new storefront is 20,000 square feet, and we are working this year to increase our impact and opportunities for men to improve their lives. $150 sponsors one man to go through the Sharp Dressed Man program. Please consider a donation today.
